First look! Han Solo spinoff film.

Production has begun so hang on to your light sabers! The next film in the Star Wars story series featuring none other than our very own scruffy nerf herder debuted their first set pic to celebrate the start of what looks to be something wonderful!

The film will focus on the early adventures of a young Han Solo pre A New Hope and how he encounters Lando Calrissian. Lucasfilm confirms that production actually begun yesterday in London’s Pinewood Studios.

Pictured above is Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Woody Harrelson, Donald Glover, Emilia Clark, Alden Ehrenreich, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Thandie Newton (not in picture) and Chewie! With the success of Rogue One we can only imagine how much pressure they are all under to replicate if not exceed our expectations again. The Star Wars universe is growing at a phenomenal rate and some may see it over over kill, we feel if they are done right we are in for some kick ass films these next few years and so on.

Look for the untitled Han Solo spin off film to land in theaters May 2018 ( Subject to change)

One last time…Our Logan review is here!

This is the Wolverine film we have all been waiting for since the first time we saw him on screen in the first X-Men film 17 years ago. It has not been an easy road for the comic book genre of films because honestly how can you put all the mythology and back story from so many years of publications and story lines into a 2 hour film and make everyone happy. Marvel has done a good job in creating their universe but their villains lack depth but hey it works for them so why mess with that formula. DC Films and WB pictures have suffered at the hands of critics because the studio doesn’t know how to stop meddling in their own projects. The X-Men have also suffered from the multiple stories trying to be told all at once and the time traveling and now a new reboot that is set to continue the Apocalypse story line as well as a couple of other spin-off films about to take flight. Where does this leave our title character who has managed to survive these last 17 years in the X-Men universe? It leaves him with one hell of a brutal and gritty sendoff for Logan.

Set in 2029 Logan takes us to a place where we will not see any airships reigning down from space trying to take over the world or bounce us around trying to spoon feed us a bunch of subplots that end up going nowhere. Logan is set in a place where mutants are all but extinct and the X-Men are but a distant memory after a major event some years ago that involved an ailing Professor X. What we have here is a stripped down, bloody, brutal and sentimental version of a character we all have grown to love and admire.

Hugh Jackman has owned the Wolverine role from the very beginning and the fans have noticed and have stuck through film after film. When this project was announced the air around here was a little mixed because how do you take such a deep and graphic series and put it on screen while doing it justice and satisfying the studio, actor, creators and most importantly the fans. In this case you call upon James Mangold to steer the project in the right direction along with the promise of an R rating so he can be true to the material. The result is Logan! One of the best adaptations that i will not even call it a comic book film because to do so would be to not give it enough credit for what it really is. What is it? It’s a fantastic film that is able to blend a lot of what we admire of the character and a lot of what fans have been wanting to see. A troubled, not so perfect man that has done many bad things and at the same time saved the world just as many.

We will not be going into much detail since we always like to give you a spoiler free review so lets wrap this up for now. Hugh has gone on record stating that is his last time as the Wolverine and if that is 100% true then we could not be happier. He lets it all out here on screen and once you see it you will understand why. The love he has for Professor X and regrets he has for his past events are all exposed for you to see in a way that is rarely seen when someone brings these characters to life. We are also introduced to Daphne Keen as X23 who just from the trailers has received so much praise for her role and we haven’t even heard her talk! I mean how does that happen!?! Daphne nails this role and we hope to see her in future X-Men projects since there are a handful on the horizon. Whether they find a way to add some continuity here or not she has a following already so listen up 20th Century Fox and Marvel!

Logan is as brutal as it is tender. Don’t believe us? See it for yourself March 3, 2017.

First Look at #Avengers #InfinityWar Your’re welcome!

January 23, 2017 it began…

Production on what started almost 10 years ago with Iron Man has all come full circle here with these next two Avengers films. It was a huge risk once the Marvel Cinematic Universe took flight because something like this scale has never really been undertaken onscreen before on this kind of scale. As you can see it worked very well with all of the Marvel films since Iron Man not only gaining box office success but critical and fan success as well as some great TV spin-off series and a Netflix series featuring another group of heroes who we know as The Defenders. This is what we have all been waiting for and now we have confirmation that the Avengers will also be teaming up with The Guardians of the Galaxy and here is proof! Enjoy!

A “block” buster in the making! Our #LegoBatmanMovie Review is here.

Another Batman movie? Why? Why oh why are they making another Batman movie?!? Well this just isn’t another Batman movie, it is a Batman movie in Lego form, it’s the Lego Batman Movie and it proves that the success of “The Lego Movie” wasn’t just a fluke or lucky shot. A lot of work went behind both films and it shows up on screen for all to see. The film is directed by Chris Mckay (Robot Chicken) with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller on the producing side this time around and story by Seth Grahame-Smith. As you know we will make sure not to spoil the film for you so here is our spoiler free review of The LegoBatman Movie!

As the opening credits begin to roll you will begin to grin and that will lead into a whole lot of laughter until the very end of the film. First of all someone needs to recognize Will Arnett for his work as LegoBatman because he is downright hilarious, dark, mysterious, and the hero Gotham needs right now. WB Pictures along with Warner Animation Group and DC Films have outdone themselves with this project. Some even say this might be the best DC Comics film and save the DC Universe altogether. (I have 10000% faith in Wonder Woman coming out later this year BTW) Back to the film we go now. Rounding out the cast is Zach Galafianakis as The Joker, Michael Cera as Robin, Rosario Dawson as and Ralph Fiennes as Alfred Pennyworth. You will also hear so many more familiar voices including Mariah Carey, Jenny Slate, Billy Dee Williams, Jonah Hill, Seth Green and Conan O’Brian to name just a few more. Whoa!

With a cast like that you may think this will be a bloated and overstuffed film with everyone trying to get some screen time. Not at all! Everything just seems to fall into place just fine and the story takes off right off from the beginning. Batman needs to save Gotham because that  is what Batman does and that shouldn’t change even in the Lego universe right. Right! From the trailers you have already some of what you are in store for though i will say that was only the tip of the iceberg in our opinion. Will Arnett is Batman and this Batman is also Will Arnett if that makes any sense. He plays this role full throttle Arnett style to the max and its fantastic. The film is pretty fast paced and will hit you (POW) every chance it gets with great one liners and swift writing (BANG) in the story it is trying to tell.

What is the story being told? In a nutshell it’s Batman finally letting people into his life and coming to terms with his past  and looking forward to his future not being alone. Here is where the heart of the film is exposed and you will adore it. The writers have given us so much material to soak up by giving all the characters wonderful equal love that no one feels left out. By the way all the villains you will see in the film are real DC characters from the comics. You can google it, i dare you! Lets wrap this up so you can get on with your night.

The LegoBatman Movie is pure joy for the entire family. From your littlest one to the comic book nerd fanboy son/daughter or husband or wife will appreciate all the little details hidden treasures throughout the film. It is equal parts hilarious and heart warming. Yep i said it, a heartwarming Batman film. The film has a pretty fast pace and that is part of the magic that makes this work so well. It does not waste any time dwelling on random facts or details it gets to the point and is able to tell a superb story.

Our February movie watch list!

January just flew by and we didn’t even get our watch list up in time. Shame on us right…Well we will not let that happen again. So in no particular order here is our shortlist of what you should be watching at the movies this month.

First up is “I Am Not your Negro” Opening Feb 3.

In his new film, director Raoul Peck envisions the book James Baldwin never finished – a radical narration about race in America, using the writer’s original words. He draws upon James Baldwin’s notes on the lives and assassinations of Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King Jr. to explore and bring a fresh and radical perspective to the current racial narrative in America. This film is nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary and deserves your attention.

Now we have John Wick Chapter 2 Opening Feb 10.

In this next chapter following the 2014 hit, legendary hitman John Wick [Keanu Reeves] is forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.

Next up is The Lego Batman Movie Opening Feb 10.

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO® Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

And now  “A United Kingdom” opening Feb 10.

A UNITED KINGDOM is the true story of King Seretse Khama of Botswana (David Oyelowo) and Ruth Williams (Rosamund Pike), a white woman from London, which caused an international uproar when they decided to marry in the late 1940’s just as apartheid was being introduced into South Africa. It was a decision that altered the course of African history.

Also we have Oscar Nominated for best Foreign Film “Land of Mine” opens Feb 10.

As World War II comes to an end, a group of German POWs, boys rather than men, are captured by the Danish army and forced to engage in a deadly task—to defuse and clear land mines from the Danish coastline. With little or no training, the boys soon discover that the war is far from over. Inspired by real events, Land of Mine exposes the untold story of one tragic moment in post-war history.Official entry from Denmark.

The following week we have “The Great Wall” opening Feb 17.

Starring global superstar Matt Damon and directed by one of the most breathtaking visual stylists of our time, Zhang Yimou (Hero, House of Flying Daggers), Legendary’s The Great Wall tells the story of an elite force making a valiant stand for humanity on the world’s most iconic structure. The first English-language production for Yimou is the largest film ever shot entirely in China. The Great Wall also stars Jing Tian, Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe and Andy Lau.

We also have “Get Out” opening Feb 24.

In Universal Pictures’ Get Out, a speculative thriller from Blumhouse (producers of The Visit, Insidious series and The Gift) and the mind of Jordan Peele, when a young African-American man visits his white girlfriend’s family estate, he becomes ensnared in a more sinister real reason for the invitation.

Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya, Sicario) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams, Girls), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy (Catherine Keener, Captain Phillips) and Dean (Bradley Whitford, The Cabin in the Woods).

At first, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined.

Equal parts gripping thriller and provocative commentary, Get Out is written and directed by Peele (Key and Peele) and produced by Blumhouse’s Jason Blum, as well as Sean McKittrick (Donnie Darko, The Box), Peele and Edward H. Hamm Jr. (The Box, Bad Words). The film also stars Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men series), Milton “Lil Rel” Howery (The Carmichael Show), Betty Gabriel (The Purge: Election Year), Marcus Henderson (Pete’s Dragon) and Keith Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton).

Oh this looks good!!! “The Girl with All the Gifts” Opening Feb 24.

The near future; humanity has been all but destroyed by a mutated fungal disease that eradicates free will and turns its victims into flesh-eating “hungries”. Only a small group of children seem immune to its effects.

At an army base in rural England, this group of unique children are being studied, subjected to cruel experiments by biologist Dr. Caldwell. Despite having been infected with the zombie pathogen that has decimated the world, these children retain normal thoughts and emotions. And while still being subject to the craving for human flesh that marks the disease these second- generation “hungries” are able to think and feel making them a vital resource in the search for a cure.

The children attend school lessons daily, guarded by the ever watchful Sergeant Parks. But one little girl, Melanie, stands out from the rest. Melanie is special. She excels in the classroom, is inquisitive, imaginative and loves her favourite teacher Miss Justineau.

When the base falls, Melanie escapes along with Miss Justineau, Sergeant Parks and Dr. Caldwell. Against the backdrop of a blighted Britain, Melanie must discover what she is and ultimately decide both her own future and that of the human race.

Finally we have “A Cure for Wellness” Opening Feb 17.

An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from an idyllic but mysterious “wellness center” at a remote location in the Swiss Alps. He soon suspects that the spa’s miraculous treatments are not what they seem. When he begins to unravel its terrifying secrets, his sanity is tested, as he finds himself diagnosed with the same curious illness that keeps all the guests here longing for the cure. From Gore Verbinski, the visionary director of THE RING, comes the new psychological thriller, A CURE FOR WELLNESS.

That is our round up for February movies you should be watching. You can always add to that some of the great award winning films and Oscar nominated films if you feel you have to catch up on them. It is great because the studios re-release them before the big show so movie goers can get one last chance to see them on the big screen.

What are you looking forward to? Anything we may have missed?

Is it May 5th yet? New Pics from #GOTGVol2 just released!

Exactly what every Marvel and movie nerd is asking themselves as they are seeing these new pictures that writer/director James Gunn with the help of USA Today just released from his upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol2 due out May 5th. Is it May 5th yet? The first installment of GOTG grabbed you ass and took you for one hell of ride into space and into a world that we almost did not get to see if it hadn’t done as well as it did.

In the interview with USA Today James Gunn said

“The first movie was successful because we took chances and gave people the unexpected. This movie can only really be what it is, Guardians can only be what they are, if they’re taking a risk. It means giving them a much different movie.”

We all remember how great it was to see the first film and how it took us to a world that not many outside of the comic book world would have been too familiar with. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol1 made sure we would like these characters and want to see them again. They play an integral part in the larger Marvel Universe and just so you know most have already been confirmed for the next Avengers films that are already in production. Though lets not get too ahead of ourselves here because we are discussing Vol2.

Take a look at some of the pictures here where we see Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Drax the Destroyer and below them an epic shot of Yondu, Baby Groot and Rocket Raccoon. Further down we see the man Starlord with Drax and suited up. Now to some movie details! The film takes place just 2 weeks after the events of the first one which makes the gap pretty tiny compared to other films the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol2 opens May 5th which is prime real estate for movies these days. We are very confident that it will surpass all of our expectations and wow us like the first one and continue the overall Marvel Universe story line.

This weeks pick of the week review! #UnPadreNoTanPadre

To say that this film caught us by surprise would be an insult to it. The trailer does it very little justice which means you will have to see it to understand our our review and oh how we hope you do see it this weekend and tell your friends to see it as well after you have raved about it. I can say that this film will catch you off guard and romance you into falling for it head over heals. You heard me right! You will fall in love with Pantelion Films and Lionsgate & Televisa Un Padre No Tan Padre. We did.

This week we screened the film at our local South Beach Regal Cinemas with special guest my mom and some of the cast! We had the honor and privilege of having the main actors  Jacqueline Bracamontes (Alma), Benny Ibarra (Fran) and Hector Bonilla (Don Servando Villegas) introduce the film and stay for the screening. My mom was a little star struck and impressed they stayed and took pictures with some of the crowd. She loved it laughed alot and also shed some tears. Now to the movie!

Yes this is a Spanish language film with subtitles and some Spanglish mixed in to it so please do let that turn you off. One thing I enjoy about the movies is being swooped off my feet and engulfed and engaged in what we are watching on the big screen. Un Padre does that right from the beginning as you get a brief introduction to Don Servando Villegas (Hector Bonilla) as well where and how he ended up almost 90 and in an old folks home because none of his kids wanted to take him in. From there the film flows nicely and the story takes off as he is kicked out of the home and has to move in…well you can read the synopsis below.

We enjoyed the mix of spanish humor and how each of the characters living in the commune house have good screen time so you are able to invest a little time into them. They are well rounded and you get just enough information as you need about them. Alot of great back and forth and flashbacks help keep the film going and give it some meat and potatoes so you don’t feel left out in the wind. Around here is where you begin to understand why his kids left Don Servando Villegas in the home and you also begin to wonder why as well. Your heart may take a little beating here as well but that is ok. It will be better as there is such whimsical interactions with everyone in the house as they all get a taste of Don Servando and his winning personality.

We will not spoil the whole film because we are hoping you go and see it for your selves. Un Padre No Tan Padre really delivers a great message and we like to see it as a coming of age movie but in the typical teenage style that we are so used to seeing. This is the coming of story of a man and his family after having lived a full life and seeing there is still more to live for.

Un Padre No Tan Padre opens nationwide this January 27. Check your local theaters for showtimes and snacks.

Set in the stately and majestic colonial city of San Miguel de Allende, this quirky comedy starring Héctor Bonilla, Benny Ibarra de Llano, Jacqueline Bracamontes and Sergio Mayer Mori, follows 85-year old Don Servando Villegas (Héctor Bonilla,) an old fashioned Mexican patriarch who gets kicked out of his retirement home for bad behavior. When his estranged son, Francisco (Benny Ibarra de Llano) is forced to take him into the house full of hippies he shares with his girlfriend and young son, “new age” collides with old age as Don Servando and his son Francisco experience a series of conflicts and situations that puts their home’s stability in jeopardy. Un Padre No Tan Padre is a story about family: the one we’re born into and the one we create along the way.

The film is directed by Raúl Martinez and produced by Gerardo Gatica’s Panorama Global, Alberto Müfflemann and Moises Cosió. The film is executive produced by Distant Horizon’s Anant Singh and Brian Cox. Anant Singh, President of Distant Horizon said, “ ‘Un Padre No Tan Padre” ’ is a hugely entertaining film and we are delighted to be partnering with Pantelion Films to bring it to the US Latin audience, a market in which they are leaders and have a successful track record. We are pleased to be continuing our relationship with Gerardo Gatica and Alberto Müfflemann at Panorama Global, with whom we previously co-produced “ ‘Kite’ ” and “‘Remember.’ ”
